What is the difference between psychotherapy and coaching?

Do I have to be at home?

4

While you don’t have to be at home to participate in your teletherapy session, I do ask that you are in a safe, confidential location that provides you the space to focus on you, free from distraction and interruption.

Please keep in mind that you must be physically located in Arizona at the time of your session and you cannot be in a moving vehicle.

Psychotherapy is a clinical mental health service provided to address emotional, behavioral, and psychological concerns. It may involve the diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions, and is typically covered by insurance when applicable. Therapy is guided by a clinical framework and focuses on healing, symptom reduction, and improved mental health functioning.

Coaching, on the other hand, is a non-clinical, goal-oriented service focused on personal development, academic planning, and/or career and life goals. Coaching does not involve diagnosis or treatment of mental health disorders and is not a substitute for psychotherapy. While coaching may explore challenges and barriers, the emphasis is on forward movement, skill-building, and action planning.

Both services are offered virtually; however, psychotherapy may be eligible for insurance coverage depending on your plan, while coaching services are cash-pay only.
